On a cool sunny morning, over 100 runners participated in the Self-Transcendence Half-Marathon/ 5-10 km Fun Run/ Walk, held last Sunday amid autumn tones in Christchurch's picturesque Hagley Park.
Half-Marathon winner, Shane Gross, ran strongly in the second half to overtake early leader Brian Miles and finish in 1:19:14 to Brian's 1:19:53. Masters runner Brian Vardy (55) showed that age does not have to be a barrier to running good times, finishing 3rd in an excellent 1:27:38.
The women's Half-Marathon was won convincingly by Jessica Daysh in 1:38:28. Tess Harris-Virgin was second in 1:46:19 just ahead of 3rd placed Robyn Perkins in 1:46:48.
Ben Muirhead (37:03) and Kerstin Fahrenschon (47:36) were the men's and women's winners in the Self-Transcendence 10 Km Fun Run, while Julian Liboa (21:07) and Maddy Vardy (23:13) won the Self-Transcendence 5 Km Races.
