In warm, blue-sky conditions Keith Burrows 231.107 km (Owairaka Athletic) and Siân Johnson 165.768 km (Gisborne) ran excellent races to achieve clear victories in the 28th Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Track Races/ Athletics New Zealand Championships, at Auckland's AUT Millennium Stadium on Sat/ Sun 21-22 March 2026 ... Keith, surpassing his 2025 (men 50-54) race record by 12.195 kms, and adding a 5th NZL championship to his victories in 2020-22-23 & 2025.

Troy Field 205.222 km (Hunua) was the men's runner-up, followed by David Middlemiss 201.947 km (Hamilton City Hawkes).

Summer Yu-Fan Hsiao 159.477 km (Whangaparāoa) and promising 25-year-old Maggi Forsyth 127.200 km (Greymouth Athletic) were 2nd & 3rd women.

Jason Cameron presented Athletics New Zealand 24-hour national championship Gold, Silver & Bronze medals to the leading 3 men & women.

Winners, Keith and Siân will join previous 24-hour race champs and have their names engraved on the respective Richard Tout and Sandy Barwich 24-Hour Perpetual Trophies.

Dan Franklin 136.000 km (Tokoroa) ran a very fine (men 75-79) 24-hour race record ... adding 16.328 kms to the late Colin Clifton's 2003 mark (119.672 km).

Edwin Van Wijngaarden C33, Hank, The Netherlands (19:25:35) observed by race-walking judges, walked 100-miles (160.9344 km) in under 24-hours, and was awarded a New Zealand Centurion medal by Philip Sharp, President of the New Zealand Centurion Walkers Club.

Fellow walkers, Barend Arie De Vries C34, Tweelingstad, The Netherlands (20:48:45), Detlef Santy C35, Langemark, Belgium (21:33:13), Kim Janssens C27, Mol, Belgium (23:16:48), David Billett C31, Adelaide, Australia (23:33:44), Gunter Luypaerts C36, Antwerpen, Belgium (23:40:51), Johan Stesmans C37, Beringen, Belgium (23:40:51) and Remco Luhrman C38, Hellevoetsluis, The Netherlands (23:44:29) also achieved New Zealand Centurion/ repeat NZL Centurion status.

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race, New Zealand 24-hour representative Wayne Botha 107.469 km (Takapuna Harriers) was the men's winner, from Dave Clarke 81.291 km (Hamilton City Hawkes)) and George Sanders 30.000 km (Malvern, USA).

Fellow New Zealand 24-hour representative Sue Hunter 107.006 km (Hamilton City Hawkes) won the women's 12-hour ... followed by her NZL team mates Dawn Tuffery 106.574 km (Hamilton City Hawkes) and Vivian Cheng 70.000 km (Wellington Harriers).

In cool, mild conditions Keith Burrows 218.912 km (Owairaka Athletics) and Helen Waterworth 206.108 km (Hatea Whangarei) ran superb races to achieve clear victories in the 27th Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Track Races/ Athletics New Zealand Championships, at Auckland's AUT Millennium Stadium on Sat/ Sun 10-11 May 2025 ... Keith, surpassing John Bayne's 2015 (men 50-54) race record by 9.478 kms, and adding a 4th NZL championship to his 3 consecutive wins in 2020, 2022-23 and runner-up performance in 2024.

Brendan Dean 195.520 km (Auckland) was the men's runner-up, followed by Deen Abu Bakar 188.839 km (YMCA Mthn Club).

Former New Zealand champions Dawn Tuffery 195.511 km (Hamilton City Hawkes) and Vivian Cheng 186.435 km (Wellington Harriers) were 2nd & 3rd women.

John Bowden presented Athletics New Zealand 24-hour national championship Gold, Silver & Bronze medals to the leading 3 men & women.

Janitus becoming just the 6th walker to achieve all 7 international Centurion badges.

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race, outright winner, Carol Robertson 130.006 km (Hamilton City Hawkes) ran a brilliant race, adding 1,712 km to her 2023 race record ... followed by Niribili File 58.905 km (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team) and Bernadette Benson 50.400 km (Bright, Australia).

Samuel Beale 124.228 km (Lake City Athletic) was the 12-Hour men's winner, from James Inward 116.280 km (Athletics Masterson) and Karl Kalders 107.263 km (Auckland).

In mild, sunny conditions Simon Cockrane 236.837 km (Hamilton) and Lara Zoeller 198.041 km (Wellington Scottish) ran superb races to achieve clear victories in the 26th Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Track Races ... at Auckland's AUT Millennium Stadium on Sat/ Sun 11-12 May. 2024.

Simon, a talented, world record holding ultra-triathlete, added 2.764 km to Aussie Mick Twaites 2014 24-hour race record (234.073 km).

3-time defending champion, Keith Burrows 217.182 km (Owairaka Athletic, Auckland) was the men's runner-up, followed by Shaun Hall 200.575 km (Auckland).

Lydia Ouellette 184.952 km (Beijing, China) and Jade Overy 155.994 km (Whippetts, Auckland) were 2nd & 3rd women.

Athletics New Zealand 24-hour national championship Gold, Silver & Bronze medals were presented to the leading 3 men & women.

Shirley Rolston 75, 124.474 km (Port Hills Athletic, Christchurch) established a New Zealand women's (75-79) 24-hour best ... adding to the womens' (65-69) & (70-74) age group marks that she already holds.

Martin Vos C30, Papendrecht, The Netherlands (23:15:28) and David Billett C31, Adelaide, Australia (23:29:10), observed by race-walking judges, walked 100-miles in 24-hours, and were awarded New Zealand Centurion medals by Philip Sharp, President of the New Zealand Centurion Walkers Club.

In the Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Teams Relay, the 6-person 'Pace Makers & Heart Breakers' team (Andrew Smith, Patrick O’Sullivan, Wayne Bryant, Andrew Harvey, Qiqi Huang & Mira Bi) were victorious with an excellent 268.610 km.

Runner's-Up 'Grafton Hall Run Club' (Harry Agnew, Tom Little, Elske Van Wyk, Emma Bryant, Luke O'Malley & Harrison McCaughan) ran an encouraging 224.281 km .

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race, Jamie Stevenson 101.950 km (Bays Athletics, Auckland) was the outright winner, followed by Preetidutta Thorpe 81.240 km (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, Auckland) and Niribili File 42.000 km (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, Auckland).

Angus Goodrick 92.811 km (Night Ninjas, Auckland) was the 12-Hour men's winner, from James Coppard 77.541 km (Auckand) and Andrew Spence 50.000 km (Auckland).

Sam Beale 186.846 km (Lake City Athletic) and Liam Jones 184.514 km (Wellington Scottish) were 2nd & 3rd men, while Kim Allan 183.621 km (Run Timaru) and Emma Timmis 150.000 km (Don Grieg Stables, Reefton) were 2nd & 3rd women.

Athletics New Zealand representative, John Bowden, presented the 24-hour national championship Gold, Silver & Bronze medals to the leading 3 men & women.

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race, Andrew Mcdowall 128.850 km (Owairaka Athletics, Auckland) ran an outstanding race for a come-from-behind outright victory over women's winner Carol Robertson 128.294 km (Hmltn Hawkes, Sunshine Beach, AUS).

Carol added 3.094 km to the long standing 12-hour race record set in 1999 by former New Zealand 100 km and 24-Hour representative Winnie Cosgrove (125.200 km).

James Inwood 113.216 km (Athletics Masterton) and Lyndon Dahlberg 98.370 km (Papakura Athletic, Cable Bay) were 2nd & 3rd men, while Sue Hunter 100.007 km (Hmltn Hawkes) was 2nd women.

Scott Whitley 68.508 km (Wanganui Harriers) won the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race ... from Tom Keeler 64.876 km (Auckland) and Allan Staite 59.560 km (Hatea Whangārei).

In changeable warm-still-sunny/ cloudy-windy-rainy conditions, Keith Burrows 214.453 km (Owairaka Athletics, Auckland), and Dawn Tuffery 191.779 km (Hamilton City Hawks), ran outstanding races to achieve victories in the 24th Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Track Races ... held at Auckland's AUT Millennium Stadium on Sat/ Sun 12-13 Nov. 2022.

Shawn O'leary 201.670 km (TTT Runners, Auckland) and Richard McChesley 178.315 km (Lower Hutt) were 2nd & 3rd men, while Emma Owen 164.137 km (Whangare) and Sue Hunter 136.510 km (Hamilton City Hawks) were 2nd & 3rd women.

Athletics New Zealand representative, John Bowden, presented 24-hour championships Gold, Silver & Bronze medals to the leading club runners. Men: Keith Burrows, Shawn O'leary & Paul Hewitson (Wellington Harriers), & Women: Dawn Tuffery & Sue Hunter.

New Zealand Ultra great, Richard Tout presented the Richard Tout 24-Hour Perpetual Trophy to Keith ... and the Sandy Barwich 24-Hour Perpetual Trophy was presented to Dawn.

Keith & Dawn become the first consecutive winners of the New Zealand 24-hour race championships.

Andrew Tiitley 161.200 km (Isle Of Man) race-walked for the entire 24 hours and, observed by walking judges, became New Zealand Centurion Walker C29. Philip Sharpe of the New Zealand Centurion Walkers Club presented Andrew with the Kiwi Centurion walker's medal.

Richard McChesley (C19) also walked over 100-miles ... having prevoiusly achieved NZL Centurion Walker Status in 2013.

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race, Shannon-Lee Litt km 123.920 (Hatea Whangārei, Christchurch) ran a great race for a comfortable outright victory (just shy of Winnie Cosgrove's 1999 125.200 km race record). Multiple New Zealand and World Age Best performer Val Muskett (Hampden) ran 50 km.

Jason Gerritz 94.809 km (Auckland) had a strong win in the Men's 12-Hour ... from Malcolm Chamberlin 60.400 km (Auckland City Athletics) and Matt Griggs 45.200 km (Canberra, AUS).

Brendon Pascoe 55.589 km (Auckland) won the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race ... from Billy Curtis 52.000 km (Sunshine Coast, AUS) and Alex Garden 50.000 km (Pakuranga Athletics, Auckland). Billy ran an exceptional 50 km split of 3.29.54.

Ainie Kwok 38.211 km (Wellington) won the women's 6-hour ... closely followed by Carol Dahlberg 37.798 km (Auckland) & Niribili File 31.762 km (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, Auckland).

In warm, sunny conditions Keith Burrows 222.495 km (Owairaka Athletics, Auckland) and Maite Rojo 206.045 km (Cambridge) ran outstanding races to achieve victories in the 23rd Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Track Races held at Auckland's AUT Millennium Stadium last weekend.

James Inwood 190.252 km (Athletics Masterton, Greytown) and Wayne Botha 188.299 km (Takapuna Harriers, Auckland) were 2nd & 3rd men, while Dawn Tuffery 196.134 km (Hamilton City Hawks) and Kirsty Hamlin 172.813 km (Athletics Whangarei) were 2nd & 3rd women.

Athletics New Zealand representative, John Bowden, presented 24-hour national championship medals to the 3 leading club runners. Men: Keith Burrows, James Inwood & Wayne Botha, & Women: Dawn Tuffery, Kirsty Hamlin & Patricia Stichbury 143.145 km (Fielding Moa Harriers, Ashhurst). Patricia also set a new national (women 60-64) 24-hour best.

Shirley Rolston 115.704 km (Port Hills Athletic) established a national (women 70-74) 24-hour best.

Richard Young 161.600 km (New Brighton Olympic) race-walked for the entire 24 hours and, observed by walking judges, became New Zealand Centurion Walker C28. Philip Sharpe of the New Zealand Centurion Walkers Club presented Richard with the Kiwi Centurion walker's medal.

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race, Tom Keeler 112.434 km (Auckland) had a comfortable win over Gary Wilson 89.701 km (Hamilton City Hawks) and Mark Gray 71.701 km (Tauranga).

Former New Zealand Commonwealth Games race-walking representative, Tony Sargisson, set a New Zealand 6-hour walking best of 53.620 km

Women's 12-hour winner Val Muskett 50.000 km (Hampden, Otago) set a New Zealand (women 65-69) 50 km best of 5.21.33.

Promising millennial Mitchell Carlyle 20, 69.210 km (Auckland) was a clear winner in the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race ... from Zane Adams 58.733 km (Auckland ) and Alan Potter 58.084 km (Auckland).

Mel Aitken 45.200 km (Wellington Scottish) won the women's 6-hour ... but sadly Mel had to stop early, due to a knee strain, while comfortably ahead of New Zealand 6-hour record pace. Niribili File 31.633 km (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, Auckland) was second woman.

In the Sri Chinmoy 24-hour Teams Relay the solo the 6-person team 'Between A Walk & A Hard Pace' 247.885 km ran a fine race ... enthusing the tiring individual runners with their cheerful positive energy in the second half.

At the 24-hour awards ceremony members of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team sang Sri Chinmoy's 'Congratultion' song to the 24-hour finishers.

In mild, sunny conditions Natalie Schmitt 206.093 km (Noumea, New Caledonia) achieved an outstanding outright victory in the 22nd Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Race held at Auckland's AUT Millennium Stadium last weekend.

Leading Kiwis Mike Field 201.227 km (Port Hills Athletic, Christchurch) and Becky Nixon 186.699 km (Queenstown Athletics, Queentown) both ran very fine races to win the respective 2019 Athletics New Zealand 24-Hour men's and women's national championships.

Alice Adiwinata 131.572 km (YMCA Marathon Club, Auckland) was third in the womens 24-hour, while Tim Gibson 192.074 km (Sydney, Australia) and Greg Yee 188.212 km (Caversham Athletic, Dunedin) were 2nd and 3rd in the men's 24-hour.

Kim Janssens (Antwerp, Belgium) 161.600 km race-walked for the entire 24 hours and, observed by walking judges, became New Zealand Centurion Walker C27. Philip Sharpe of the New Zealand Centurion Walkers Club presented Kim with the Kiwi Centurion walker's medal.

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race, Bryan McCorkindale 113.175 km (New Brighton Olympic, Christchurch) was just a few kilometers shy of the world 65-69 age best that he set here in 2017. Brian was followed by Nick Allen 102.639 km (Auckland) and Cliff Harrison 83.396 km (Auckland).

Women's 12-hour winner Val Muskett 98.176 km (Hampden, Otago) made a brave, determined effort to set a new world women's 65-69 age best, but was just 2 km short. Natalie Burrows 81.033 km (Auckland) and Helen Chignell 71.072 km (Hill City University, Dunedin) were 2nd and 3rd.

Wayne Botha 70.254 km (Takapuna Harriers, Auckland) was a clear winner in the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race ... from Thomas Watson 68.612 km (Auckland ) and Brad Luiten 64.344 km (Auckland).

Dawn Tuffery 62.198 km (Hamilton City Hawks, Hamilton) won the women's 6-hour, followed by Niribili File 37.623 km (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, Auckland).

In the Sri Chinmoy 24-hour Teams Relay the winning 6-person team, 'The First Chapter' 290.309 km, made a valiant effort to transscend the 301.441 km race record set by the North Shore Bays Athletic Club back in the year 2000. In second place were the 'Edenvale Queens' team with 117.574 km.

At the 24-hour awards ceremony members of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team sang Sri Chinmoy's 'Congratultion' song to the stoic 24-hour finishers.

In mild, sunny conditions Greg Yee (Leith Harriers) Dunedin (188.288 km) and Kim Allen (Papakura Athletic) Tuakau (167.611 km) achieved fine victories in the 21st annual Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Track Races to became the 2018 Athletics New Zealand 24-Hour national champions... held at Auckland's AUT Millennium Stadium last weekend. John Bowman from Athletics New Zealand presented the 24-hour championship medals.

Croydon Paton (Fiordland Athletic) Dunedin (183.649 km) and Aaron Heather (Egmont Athletics) New Plymouth (176.266 km) were 2nd and 3rd in the men's 24-hour, while Joanne Aitken, Wellington (161.600 km) Jade Vanzuita, Wellington (126.363 km) were 2nd and 3rd in the women's 24-hour race.

Rob Robertson (USA) 161.600 km and Joanne Aitkin (161.600) race-walked for the entire 24 hours and, observed by walking judges, became New Zealand Centurion Walkers C25 & C26 respectively (Joanne being just the 2nd Kiwi woman to achieve this landmark ... after Maureen Metcalfe in 2001). Philip Sharpe of the New Zealand Centurion Walkers Club presented the Centurion medals to Rob and Joanne.

Wayne Botha (Takapuna Harriers) Auckland, (116.836 km) comfortably won the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race from Rodrigo Aller, Buenos Aires (ARG) (100.552 km) and Grant Conway Auckland, (91.454 km).

Alice Adiwinata, (YMCA Marathon Club) Auckland (102.777 km) won the women's 12-hour from Niribili File (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team) Auckland (61.907 km) and Marianna Nagy Schwendtner (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team) Auckland (54.660 km).

Keith Burrows, Auckland (71.350 km) was a clear winner in the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race ... from Steve Pemberton, Wanaka (68.018 km) and Thomas Watson, Auckland (63.059 km).

Shannon-Leigh Litt, (New Brighton Athletic) Christchurch, (63.143 km) won the women's 6-hour, followed by Amy Weeden, Auckland (58.179 km) and Tracy Benjamin, Auckland (55.517 km).

After a long night of persistent wind and rain Dawn Tuffery 34, (Hamilton City Hawks) Hamilton, (202.705 km) and Slavomir Lindvai 46, Mala Ida, Slovakia (193.600 km) emerged to achieve fine victories in the 2017 Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Track Races ... held at Auckland's AUT Millennium Stadium last weekend.

Outright winner, Dawn became the 2017 Athletics New Zealand women's 24-Hour national champion, while men's runner-up Andrew Glennie (Caversham Harrier & Athletic) Dunedin, (184.451 km) became the 2017 Athletics NZ men's champ.

Dawn ran brilliantly for 100-miles (16:43:57) and was on pace to go beyond 220 km ... before slowing down in the adverse conditions. She was challenged by runner-up Susan Marshall 33, (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team/ New Brighton Olympic) Christchurch, (169.273 km) for 6-7 hours ... and then gradually moved ahead.

3rd placed man, Bryan McCorkindale 65, (New Brighton Olympic) Christchurch, (180.443 km) set an outstanding 12-hour world age best performance (M65-69) of 122.752 km enroute (subject to IAU ratification).

Three Netherlands' athletes, Marco Bloements 52 (169.331 km), 3rd placed woman, Gertrude Achterberg 47 (161.600 km), and Arie Kandelaars 53 (161.600 km), race-walked for the entire 24 hours and, observed by walking judges, became New Zealand Centurion Walkers C22, C23 & C24.

Katrin Gottachalk 39, (YMCA Marathon Club) Auckland, (115.200 km) was the outright winner of the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race followed an improving Alice Adiwinata 37, (YMCA Marathon Club) Auckland (102.589 km) and Annie Jerling 45, (Athletics & Cycling Masterson) Masterson (95.114 km).

12-Hour men's winner Wayne Botha 45, (Takapuna Harriers) Auckland, (114.739 km) made a brave attempt to improve his Guinness 100 km world barefoot running record. James Harper 41, Auckland (102.805 km) was second, followed by Don Kerr 60, (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team) Hamilton, (52.800 km).

Thomas Watson 29, Auckland (66.646 km) was a clear winner in the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race ... from Philip Sprules 51, (North Shore Bays Athletics) Auckland, (61.284 km) and Dean Michie 50, Auckland (60.284 km).

Thuy Truong 26, (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team) Auckland, (46.771 km) won the women's 6-hour, followed by Nicola McPherson 32, Auckland (43.992 km) and Niribili File 71, (Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team) Auckland, (39.968 km).

John Bayne 51, (Leith Harriers) Dunedin, (209.434 km) and Penny Kirkwood 47, (YMCA Marathon Club) Auckland, (146.363 km) won the 2016 Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Races (Inaugural Athletic New Zealand Championships) on the weekend.

After an absorbing dual with 2014 Champ, Aussie Mick Thwaites during the first 10 hours John ran resolutely through the night to achieve a very fine victory.

Jamie Hawker 57, (Port Hills Athletic) Christchurch, (193.936 km) ran with strength and committment for second place ... followed by 2013 winner Wayne Botha 44, (Takapuna Harriers) Auckland, (191.643 km).

Multi Iron-man and Kepler finisher, Shirley Rolston 67, (Port Hills Athletic) Christchurch, (129.681 km) ran a N.Z (Women 65-69) 24-hour age best performance.

Paul Riedel 47, Taupo (102.000 km) and Christine Tuka 54, (Wanganui Athletics) Wanganui, (75.400 km) won the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Races.

Another outstanding performance in the 12-hour came from Gary Regtien 80, (Takapuna Harriers) Auckland, (75.312 km), who set a N.Z (Men 80-84) age best performance.

Craig Price 44, Papamoa (62.499 km) and Debbie Skilton 44, Auckland (59.812 km) had comfortable wins in the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race.

N.Z. ultra great Richard Tout presented the Richard Tout & Sandy Barwick 24-Hour Perpetual Trophies to 2016 champions John and Penny.

Alex McKenzie 54, Wiaouru (195.432 km) and Sharon Scholz 39, Wangaratta AUS (170.853 km) won the 2015 Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Races last weekend. Alex becoming a dual 24-hour champion ... following on from his victory in the 2008 race.

Sharon, along with her husband Justin, race-walked together for the entire 24 hours and, observed by race walking judges, became New Zealand centurion walkers C20 & C21.

Wayne Botha 43, Auckland (119.948 km) won the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race ... setting a new Guinness 100 km barefoot running record of 8 hours 42 minutes 11 seconds on the way ... improving by 7 minutes on his 2013 mark.

Fiona Ellison 45, Tuaranga (100.700 km) won the women's 12-Hour in a fine ultra debut.

Race-walker Graeme Jones 42, (Napier) set national records (open men) for 6-hours (52.983 km), 50-miles (9.16.14), 100km (11.33.16) and 12-hours (103.247 km).

Kim Dirks 44, Auckland (56.631 km) also had an auspicious start to her ultra career ... winning the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race outright ... just ahead of men's winner Ian Brailsford 50, Auckland (56.139 km).

At the awards ceremony New Zealand ultra greats Sandy Barwick and Richard Tout presented the 24-hour perpetual trophies to 2015 champions Alex and Sharon.

In the 17th annual Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Races (NZ 24-Hr Champs) Mick Thwaites, 40 (Brisbane AUS) ran an inspired race to achieve a new personal best/ race record of 234.073 kms ... adding over 9 km to the previous mark of 224.800 kms set by Ian Curtis (Tauranga) in 1997.

Runner-up Wayne Botha 42, Auckland (203.047 km) made a valiant attempt to regain the Guinness 24-hour barefoot record (now 220 km) that he had set in 2013 ... only to be thwarted by the onset of foot problems during the increasingly persistant overnight rain.

Val Muskett 60, Hampden Otago (110.795 km) ran a magnificent world best performance (women 60-64) In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race ... adding 1 km to the mark she set recently in Adelaide, Australia.

Vivian Cheng 26, Wellington (161.200 km) comfortably regained the 24-Hour Women's Championship followed by Patricia Stichbury 56, Ashhurst (138.692 km)

Niribili File 68, Auckland set a 24-hour national (women 65-69) age best of 125.620 km.

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Men's Race Andy Parsottam 39, New Plymouth (91.986) was first followed by master's runner Gary Regtein 78, Auckland who ran a very fine 84.176 km.

Gene Rand 40, Auckland (71.300 km) and Katrin Gottschalk 36, Auckland (68.916 km) won the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Races.

Guinness, National & Race Records Go in Sri Chinmoy Ultras

Kerrie Bremner 215.081 km (47, Canberra AUS) and Wayne Botha 211.519 km (41, Auckland) both ran superb, well paced races last weekend to win the 2013 womens' and mens' Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Races (N.Z. 24-hour championships).

Wayne, running bare foot throughout, also set new Guinness 100 km (8:49:42) and 24-hour barefoot world records. [Ratified Nov. 2013]

Race walkers Cliff Harrison (Auckland) and Richard McChesney (Upper Hutt), observed by judges, walked over 100 miles (161 km) in a day to become N.Z. Centurion walkers C18 & C19 respectively.

Masters runner Shirley Rolston 64 (Christchurch) set a New Zealand women's (60-64) 24-hour best performance of 129.124 km.

Caleb Koia-Hamling 31 (Paeroa) won the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race ... with a fine 102.108 km in his first ultra.

Ably led by Jason Pace, the 'Because I Can' 4-person team ran 138.572 km to win the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Teams Relay ... followed by an enthusiastic, hard-working, 3-man 'Killer Dom & the Kid' Team - 120.384 km.

Shannon-Lee Litt 33 (Mt Maunganui) set a women's race record of 71.233 km with an outright victory in the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race. Michael Dall 41 (Auckland) won the men's race with 64.720 km.

New Zealand reps. Masterton's Graeme Butcher, in a 207.189 km personal best, & 2010 women's winner - Wellington's Vivian Cheng (192.652 km), became the 2011 Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour national champions last week-end.

37 individual runners and 3 relay teams participated in the 14th Sri Chinmoy 6-12- 24-Hour Track Races (N.Z. 24-Hour Track Championship) at Auckland's Sovereign Stadium.

The weather was cool/ mild & overcast with gusty winds and some intermitent fine rain.

2003/4 24-hour men's champ. Dhiraja McBryde was the 24-hour men's runner-up with an encouraging 176.660 km, while rookie Kim Allan (Tuakau) was second placed woman with an excellent 178.389 km.

Jenny Williams from Kumeu, ran a very fine 111.518 km to win the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race outright while 60 year old Lance Hunniford from Red Beach achieved note-worthy 97.940 km.

Master's champ, Gary Regtien 75; running an outstanding 87.224 km; was the 12-hour men's runner up ... followed by race walker Mark Gray who walked a steady 81.560 km.

In the women's 12-hour Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team rep. Auckland's Stacey Marsh looked comfortable ... running a promising 88.321 km for 2nd place.

Auckland's Alan Potter (66.965 km) & Tracy Frerk (58.583 km) won the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Races ... Tracy finishing ahead of up-coming 18 year old Kallola Brown (58.409 km) by just 174 metres.

During the night 6-Hour winner Alan ran another 3-hour stint to assist 'The 40 Somethings" team achieve victory in the 12-Hour Teams Relay (127.585 km).

At the awards ceremony New Zealand ultra greats, Sandy Barwick & Gary Regtien, presented the Sandy Barwich & Richard Tout Perpetual Trophies to 2011 24-Hour winners Graeme & Vivian.

World Age Best & National Records go in Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Ultras

Val Muskett from Otago set 5 world age (women 55-59) records in the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race … on route to outright victory (121.983 km ) from men’s 12-Hour winner Justin Cheyne 38, (113.600 km).

Race-walker Andrew Shelley 38, from Upper Hutt set national walking records for 50-Miles, 100 km and 12-hours and, along with Belgium’s Rudy Schoors 45, and Caroline Mestdagh 45, walked 100-miles (161 km) in front of walking judges to join the elite New Zealand Centurion Walkers Club ... Rudy walking strongly during the night to achieve Centurion status just 30 seconds ahead of Andrew.

The Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Men’s Race was won by N.Z. 100 Km rep Greg Hannah 41, of Dunedin in a fine (217.802 Km), from 2008 winner Alex McKenzie 49, in a personal best 206.530 km, followed by impressive rookie Wayne Botha 38, (204.698 km).

Another New Zealand rep, the ever cheerful Vivian Cheng 32, from Wellington (201.400 km), won the women’s 24-Hour, attaining 200 km for the first time, followed by Australian rookie Carol Lapsys, who celebrated her 33rd birthday with an outstanding 182.408 Km, and race-walker Carol Mestdagh 45, 162.800 km.

8 men and 3 women went beyond 100 miles (161km).

The Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Races were won by Tracy Benjamin 36, (61.911 km) and Stuart MacAdam 18, (57.689 km).

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Teams Relay Tony Sargisson, Silver Medalist 50-km Walk 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games and up-coming Quentin Rew, who missed by just 1 minute on going to New Delhi, led an enthralling battle for third place between 2 excellent teams of race-walkers.

Racing head to head early on Sunday morning, only the best of the fresh relay runners could avoid being overtaken by Tony and Quentin as hour upon hour they literally scorched around the track … Tony’s team finishing just 394 metres ahead of Quentin’s - 119.118 km to 118.724 km.

The 12-Hour Relay was won by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team – Men (141.350 km) from Butch's Brigade of Masterton (128.195 km)

â€˜Race Walking Aucklandâ€™ set new walking record in Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Teams Relay

After a cloudy, dry weather start, rookie Matt Bixley 37, ran strongly and unwaveringly through heavy, and at times, torrential rain on Saturday afternoon to achieve a milestone 201.200 km in his first 24-hour track race. The cheerful, hardy, Dunedin runner showed the maturity and robustness gained from his 24-hour â€˜Rogeanâ€™ team events. Paced by 12-hour winner Wayne Botha during the first half, and possessing more than useful 9.38 100 km speed, Matt always looked comfortable and in command of the race.

24-hour runner-up, Aussie Geoff Last 58, from the Gold Coast, ran his own race and was very steady and consistent in achieving an excellent 180.538 km. Geoff was followed by 3 Aucklanders, who just made it past the 100-mile benchmark, David Walker (165.344 km), Winston Sweatman (162.075 km) and Nick Linton (161.934 km).

Nick 22 Auckland, showed determination, grit and commitment while really struggling during the last few hours. 100-miles was his goal and this had looked attainable throughout most of the race -but the closer Nick got the more the beckoning 100-mile goal loomed and threatened to slip out of his grasp.

With less than 15 minutes remaining, Nick very slowly and painfully eased the last steps to the 100-mile mark, where he sat on a chair; immediately broke out into a beaming smile and enjoyed a photo celebration â€“ happily holding the 100 mile sign while surrounded by his family and team of enthusiastic supporters.

Race walkers Keith Still, 57 from Tauranga (144.853 km), and Aussie Doug McKay, 59 from Melbourne (134.650 km), both walked strongly in the conditions with Keith achieving his best 24-hour performance on the track.

In the womenâ€™s 24-hour Sophie Anderson 31, from the Auckland Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team had foot problems and several changes of shoes, but remained happy and smiling throughout to achieve 1st place with 127.822 km - followed her team-mates Tanya Ryan 43, from Christchurch (117.640 km), Nabhoniya Butler (113.113 km) and masters champion Niribili File 63, (109.227 km).

12-hour winner, Wayne Botha 37 from Auckland, looked fit, fresh and unfazed by the rain and wind as he smiled all the way to a 114.208 km personal best. In 2nd place after Wayne was 2006 12-hour champion, Darren Heaven (103.285 km), followed by Steve Ciprian (94.374 km) and masters champion Gary Regtien 73, who ran a fine 89.474 km. Aucklander Angela Lemanis 36, ran 60.000 km.

Simon Clendon 44 from Auckland, also looking well trained and focused, was the winner of the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race with a well paced 65.899 km run. Richard Pedley 30, from the Auckland Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team, was 2nd (61.098 km) after a good tussle with Jason Rudkin-Binks 41 Auckland, (60.420 Km). Masters race walker Graham Cleal 67 Orewa, walked 40.874 km.

Eva Scheiwe 21 Hamilton-Germany, won the womenâ€™s 6-hour with a gutsy 53.214 km from Carol Worthington 43 Auckland, (44.522 km).

The Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Teams Relay started simultaneously with the finish of the 12-hour individual race at 9.00 pm Saturday evening - the 6 teams of 4 runners ran throughout the night, finishing at 9.00 am Sunday with the 24-hour competitors. The heavy rain had eased by the beginning of the relay and the conditions during the second 12-hours were cool, damp, some fine drizzle and a light breeze.

The winning team was the â€˜All Starsâ€™ (143.341 km) with Alan Sutcliffe (34.800 km), Aaron McCurdy (36.400 km), Craig Speakman (38.000 km) and Gareth Kretzer (34.141 km). In 2nd place was the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team â€“ Men (133.521 km) who just held off the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team A â€“ Women (132.280 km).

The â€˜Race Walking Aucklandâ€™ Team led by Brooke Cowsill (27.631 km) and Alana Barber (recent national 10 km race walking champ.) (27.200 km), together with Shirley Barber (23.600 km) and David Barber (23.200 km), surpassed the â€˜Hamilton Hopefulsâ€™ 2003 race walking record by 2 km â€“ setting a new mark of 101.631 km.

At the awards ceremony NZUA President and N.Z. ultra great Sandy Barwick MBE, presented the Richard Tout and Sandy Barwick Perpetual Trophies to 2009 24-hour champions Matt Bixley and Sophie Anderson.

At 9.00 a.m. 22nd November 2008, on a mild, partly cloudy, Saturday morning 31 runners and race walkers lined up for the concurrent starts of the 11th Sri Chinmoy 6-12-24-Hour track races (New Zealand 24-Hour Championship) at the Millennium Institute's Sovereign Stadium, Auckland. 16 individual athletes participated in the 24-hour, 6 in the 12-hour and 9 in the 6-hour.

Early into the 24-hour Lisa Tomati 40, from New Plymouth, who recorded an outstanding 10th place in the 217 km Badwater-Mt Whitney U.S.A. desert-mountain ultra in July, linked up with Staff Sergeant Alex McKenzie 48, of Tauranga and together they ran in tandem - encouraging and supporting each other, clearly aware that the main challenge ahead was from the tyranny of time and distance itself and not from the other competitors. This camaraderie continued for most of the race and surely helped both of them in achieving massive personal bests.

From the beginning of the race a gusty northerly wind threatened - keeping our team of helpers ever vigilant - repeatedly securing and resecuring the banners, tents, race equipment and paper work. On Saturday afternoon the competitors changed direction and the sun came out - providing both very warm conditions and a head wind down the exposed main straight. During this period the athletes took in heaps of Replace and water - and wet sponges on the head were definitely the go!

In the Sri Chinmoy 6-Hour Race Greg English 31, (an Iron-man finisher from Napier) ran strongly to achieve 1st place with 62.242 km. In second place was former South African ultra runner Paul Homann with 53.654 km - followed by Auckland's John McTaggart with 52.010 km. Early leader, and 2008 Taupo 100 km winner, Simon Riley had to stop after completing 34.4 km. Aucklanders' Michel Garrett and Carol Bielby ran impressively to record equal first place in the women's 6-hour race with 53.458 km.

In the Sri Chinmoy 12-Hour Race Wayne Botha 36, (Auckland) ran confidently, improving on his 2006 performance, and achieved 1st place with 103.595 km. Roger Morrissey (Whangaparaoa) was second with 63.629 km: followed by Richard Wall (Wellington) with 62 947 km and masters champion Gary Regtien (50.800 km). Newcomer Juliette Gallienne was 1st in the women's 12-hour with 57.267 km.

Meanwhile in the Sri Chinmoy 24-Hour Race Alex was running as"solid as a rock" as he powered through the hot afternoon sun and wind into a cooler and increasingly calm night- passing 100 km in 10.57 and 108.4 km at the 12-hour half-way- followed by Lisa who, although becoming more reliant on her shoulders and arms to carry her tired legs, was still looking indomitable as she passed 100 km in a personal best 11.26 and 104 km at 12 hours.

24-hour rookies Winston Sweatman 42, (Auckland) and Vivian Cheng 30, (Wellington) were next- Winston showing a lot of maturity in reaching a milestone 100 km in 11.29 - and Vivian looking very smooth and composed as she passed 100 km, also a personal best, in 11.50. During the night three 4-person 12-hour relay teams- two teams of race walkers from the Hibiscus Coast and the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team women's team - joined the 24-hour runners - the relay runners' freshness and enthusiasm providing extra energy for the tiring 24-hour athletes.

Alex passed 100 miles in a fine 18.53 - but although he had not stopped, and with just 90 minutes remaining, 200 km was increasingly beginning to look out of reach. Needing to find something special, and urged on by his supporters and helpers, Alex picked up the pace from 3.30 per lap to 2.10 per lap and drove himself around the track, showing extraordinary, renewed strength and commitment, to go beyond himself and attain the 200 km goal with only 8 minutes left.

Lisa, also on a mission, passed 100 miles in 20.02 and pushed all the way to the finish to record an outstanding 35 km personal best of 192.365 km. Winston passed 100 miles in 21.19.30 and finished with an excellent 175.945 km. Vivian ran 100 miles in 22.35 and achieved a notable 162.400 km. Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team member Sophie Anderson (30) ran well during the night to achieve a personal best 141.632

Niribili File 62, (Auckland) improved her New Zealand Women (60-65) 24-hour record by 7 km to 116.551 km.

At the awards ceremony President of the New Zealand Ultra Runners Association Sandy Barwick M.B.E. and fellow ultra great Richard Tout presented the Sandy Barwick and Richard Tout 24-Hour Perpetual Trophies to 2008 24-hour champions Alex and Lisa.
