New Zealand reps Martin Lukes and Val Muskett won the 7th annual Sri Chinmoy 100 km Races (2012 Athletics New Zealand 100 km championships) held in Hagley Park North, Christchurch on Sunday.

 

In cool breezy conditions Martin 40, was in dominant form, keeping up with the leading 100 km team runners during the first 50 km (3.24), and then coming home strongly in an outstanding race record time of 7.08.37.

Masters champion Brian McCorkindale 59, showed poise, focus and strength as he achieved second place in a world class time of 8.13.04. Brian was followed by Glen Sutton (8.29..29), Wayne Botha (8.58.23) and Australian David Kennedy (8.59.10).

Val Muskett 57, holder of many world age bests, ran resolutely to finish in 10.05.18 ... holding off a determined challenge from Shannon Lee Litt 33, (10.14.35).

'Marathon Clinic 1' (6.47.53) was the leading 4-person 100 km team with  followed by the 'Sons of Eire' (8.28.58) and 'Anglican' (9.43.12) teams.

Lisa Nicholls 44 (8.52.46) was an outright winner in the inaugural Sri Chinmoy 50 Mile Race (80.4672 km) ... finishing well ahead of runner up Christine Couldrey (9.26.09).

David Ryan 26 (9.09.47) was the mens 50 mile race winner ... closely followed by Rueben Costello 24 (9.17.35). Tom Cockerill,  a stoic 67 year old rookie, finished in 12.25.20.

Guy Dryden 48 (3.44.22) and Nicky Cummings 45 (4.08.40) were comfortabe winners of the Sri Chinmoy 50 km races.
