A beautiful sunrise and clear conditions welcomed entrants in Sunday's 10km, 5km and Children's 2.5km races - despite forecasts of snow from earlier in the week! Happily the southerly blast held off till the afternoon and participants enjoyed excellent running conditions.

The 10km race saw a fast field of runners in the men's race, with the first three finishers all coming in under the 40-minute mark. Russell Wordsworth claimed first place in 39:21, followed by a close contest for second place - Andrew Wentworth claimed the silver medal with 39:36 and Anthony Kane took bronze with 39:39.

In the women's 10km event Amy Rice led the field, winning with a personal best time of 40:20. Jenny Blomqvist came second with 43:04 and Rosie Hay took third with 43:25.

In the 5km events Russ Taylor claimed a solid win in the men's race with a 20:18 finish. The women's event was won by the youngest runner in the 5km, 13-year-old Gemma Dixon coming first with 24:55.

The children's 2.5km races saw one of our largest fields to date with a talented batch of very fast youngsters coming through under the 10-minute mark. Thomas Anderson (12) placed first with an excellent time of 9:06. Ethan Smolej (11) closely followed with 9:14 and Caleb Parsons (12) came third with 9:21.

The girls also did very well with Nina Ericson (11) taking first with 11:46. Benita Clark (7) clocked 11:59 for second, and Maddison Parsons (7) took third place with 12:07.

We wish all our young runners who have qualified through the zones process for the Primary Sports Canterbury Cross-Country Championships the best of luck for your race on 10th June.

Congratulations to all participants and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!
