Clear skies and a deep frost greeted participants in the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence Cross-Country Race in Curletts Reserve, Christchurch. Runners soon warmed up with a fast start and bravely conquered muddy fields and the icy water feature!

In the 2.5km race the kids set a cracking pace with several breaking 12 minutes over this moderately challenging course. Christopher Dryden (13) took a close first place in 10:39, followed a few seconds later by Ayrton Shadbolt (11) in 10:43. Erin Downie (9) added another gold medal to her collection clocking a fast 11:30 win, with Tayla Clarke (12) also finishing under 12 minutes with 11:55 for second place. We were stoked to see even the youngest kids tackling the cold water - the smaller you are, the deeper it gets!

The men's race saw a dramatic sprint finish with Chris Ockenden just taking the edge from Bert Prendergast in 31:24 and 31:25 respectively. The women's event was a clear win by Deb Wilson in 37:40, with second place taken by Julie Mugford in 39:34.

Congratulations to all participants!
